ABOUT: Jayanti is a small forest village, which is under the Buxa
Tiger Reserve in Alipurduar District of West Bengal. It is approximately 30 km
away from the main town of Alipurduar. Jayanti is a place where tourists can easily spend some days
to enjoy the beauty of Jayanti, to visit around a wide quantity of beautiful
places in Buxa Tiger Reserve area and the total east Dooars. Beneath the vibrant ecology is the Jayanti village, the oldest
village of the Dooars, which is slowly fading away as the time is passing by. It is located in the River Jayanti, forming a border with the
hills of Bhutan. It is a very popular destination among hikers and other people
because of the beautiful surrounding landscapes, dense mountains and beautiful
waterfalls. The 13 km trek from Buxaduar to Jayanti is especially popular, passing through the
dense forest of the Buxa Tiger Reserve. It
is located at 26.69oN and 89.70oE. The Jayanti river remains dry throughout the year, during
the rainy seasons, the river fills up and blocks the way to the other side of
the river. However during monsoon, a refreshing environment is
very special to relax with the attracting sound of the flowing river, chirping
of birds, relaxing fragrance of nature and refreshing cool winds.
ROUTES TO JAYANTI: Because Jayanti is a small village, it doesn’t have its own
airport or railway station. Its nearest airport is at Siliguri, West Bengal
which is the Bagdogra Airport, 196 km away from Jayanti from where we will have
to move to Alipurduar, as Alipurduar is the nearest city from Jayanti. The
nearest railway station is also at Alipurduar. There are bus and taxi routes
between Jayanti and Alipurduar. You can also go to Jayanti by your own cars.
WHEN TO VISIT JAYANTI: You can visit Jayanti at any time but it is very much noticeable that
most visitors don’t go there during the rainy seasons, as the water in the
river fills up very quickly during rain and quite a times floods occur, and
also route to the Mahakal cave becomes inaccessible, because it is in the other
side of the Jayanti river. Hence, it is to be advised to avoid the rainy season
when the area might become quite inaccessible.
