About:
Sikkim is a state in the northeastern region of India. It is bordered by Tibet in the north, Bhutan in the East, West Bengal in the south and Nepal in the West. It is the second smallest state in India. The word Sikkim is derived from two words of the Limbu language, ‘Su’, which means ‘new’ and ‘Khyim’, meaning ‘palace’. The Tibetan name for Sikkim is Drenjong, meaning ‘Valley of Rice’. As the nickname suggests, Sikkim is a land where various types of plants, flowers, etc are found.  The official flower of Sikkim is the Noble Dendrobium and the official tree is the Rhododendron. The official bird and animal are the Blood Pheasant and the Red Panda respectively.
Kanchenjunga, the highest peak in India, is located in Sikkim. The largest city of Sikkim is Gangtok. It is also the capital of Sikkim. Sikkim is located at 27.5330 o north and 88.5122 o south. There are four districts of Sikkim, which are Gangtok, Mangan, Namchi and Geyzing. The official languages spoken in Sikkim are English, Limbu, Tamang, Rai, Mukhia, Bhutia, Manger, Gurung, Lepcha, Newari and Sherpa.
Sikkim is the largest producer of the Cardamom spice in India and the second largest in the world. This state has banned plastic bottles and polystyrene products, thus being an eco-friendly state in the country.

Routes to Sikkim: Sikkim did not have any operational airport until 4 October 2018, when the Pakyong Airport started the first commercial flight after many years of delay. It is situated at an altitude of over 1400m above the sea level, making it one of the highest airports in India. Before the Pakyong Airport was build, the closest airport to Sikkim was the Bagdogra Airport in Silliguri, a district in West Bengal, India. There is also a helicopter service in Sikkim run by the ‘Sikkim Helicopter Service’, connecting Gangtok to Bagdogra.
Sikkim has an absence of good railway infrastructure. The Ministry Of Railways of India has a project in for railway lines linking Mirik and Ranipool. Another project has been launched to connect Sevok in the border of West Bengal border with the Rangpo town in Sikkim via railroads. The major railway stations near Sikkim are Silliguri and New Jalpaiguri in West Bengal.
The ‘National Highway 10’ runs across Sikkim connecting Gangtok to Silliguri through roads. The Sikkim National Transport operates buses throughout the state. There are also a lot of private buses, trucks, taxis and jeeps running across Sikkim, also connecting the state with other parts of the country. Sikkim is linked with Tibet in China by the Nathu La mountain pass.
