 About:
               Meghalaya is a state in the northeastern region of India. It is bordered by Assam in the north and east and Bangladesh in the south and west. It is a wonderful state on the northeast India. The capital of Meghalaya is Shillong. During the British rule, the British often called this state’ The Scotland of the East’. Meghalaya is located at 25.57 N and 91.88 E.
The official languages of Meghalaya are English, Khasi, Garo, Pnar, Assamese, Bengali and Hajong. The Paphiopedilum Insigne is the official flower of Meghalaya. The official tree and animal are Gmelina Arborea and the Clouded Leopard. The forests in Meghalaya are known for its biodiversity, animals, birds, natural beauty, etc.
People have been living in Meghalaya from a lot before than we were born; people have lived here from before the Neolithic period. A lot of Neolithic sites have been discovered in the Garo and Jaintia Hills. Meghalaya is the wettest state in India, having an annual rainfall of about 12,000mm. Meghalaya has some records too! It includes Cherrapunji, which has the most rainfall on Earth and Mawlynong village, which is the cleanest village in India.

Routes to Meghalaya
           Meghalaya is served by the Shillong Airport at Umroi which is located 19 miles away from the main town of Shillong. Besides these, there are also helicopter services connecting Shillong to Guwahati (a state in Assam) and Tura. The other nearby airports are located in Guwahati, which is about 124 km away from Shillong.
Meghalaya has a wide network of road networks of about 7600km. Meghalaya is linked with many states in the Northeast, which includes Aizawl in Mizoram, Agartala in Tripura, etc via National Highways. There are also a wide range of running buses which include the buses operated by the Meghalaya Transport Corporation (MTC), private buses, tourist taxis and cabs (specially for foreign tourists), vans,etc.
The rail routes in Meghalaya are very good and well- maintained. The Guwahati Railway Station in Assam is the nearest major railway station. The Cherrapunji Railway Station was a former mountain railway station running along the state. Meghalaya has a railway station at Mendipathar with a daily service connecting Mendipathar and Guwahati.
